Talented  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 2.4.6c
by: IBLJerry [More]

Talented is a replacement to the default Talent UI, with a lot of added features.

Feature List

  • See the complete talent tree on a single frame.
  • View and switch to your alternate spec when you've bought it.
  • Create and view templates for all classes and hunter pets. Hunters can view the spec of their pet and apply templates to them.
  • Set a specific template as a target, and see it when you're spending your next talent point on level up.
  • Apply complete templates with a single click, after a talent wipe.
  • Share your current build with other, or any template you've made.
  • Import and export templates directly from the major online talent calculators.
  • Inspection of other characters will also inspect their alternate spec, if they have one.
  • Added a Glyph frame, similar to the one from Blizzard's Default UI. This frame is independent from Talented main frame, though.
  • A macro command /talented apply <template> allows to automatically apply a template based on its name.
  • Shift-clicking on an entry in the template menu will open the template in a secondary frame, allowing to compare two templates side by side.

Talenvet v2.4.6 is compatible with wow patch 3.3.5.
Talented v2.4.5 is compatible with the new wowhead URL format.
Talented v2.4.4 is compatible with wow 3.3.0
Talented v2.4 is compatible with wow 3.2.0
Talented v2.4 split the glyph frame support into its own lod module.
Talented v2.4 stops checking the validity of all templates at load time. This makes Talented load faster and use less memory at startup. This means that the invalid templates for death knights will be fixed when you try to select them.
Talented v2.4 adds the point distribution of each templates to the corresponding menu entry, as well as the name of the primary tree.
Talented v2.4 fixes a graphical glitch that occurs when RestartGx() is called.

Talented v2.3 integrated Talented_SpecTabs with Talented.
Talented 2.2 fixed some missing pets errors, and provides several usability improvements to the UI.

Wow. After all your work on this (essential IMO) addon, I can't believe you have to waste time explaining things to people with a sense of entitlement who have the nerve to tell you how to manage your addon.

You have 1000% more patience than I do to even waste your time acknowledging such posts.

Gonna test out the new version on the PTR tomorrow.

Keep up the awesome work. It's greatly appreciated!

The error message is "Talented v2.0 is only compatible with 3.1 PTR"

It means that you have installed the alpha/beta/non-release version of Talented on the live client.

You can fix this by removing this version of Talented and install Talented 1.9.6c. Do it by hand if your updater don't want you to.

There has been several changes in Blizzard API between 3.0 and 3.1. I have decided not to try to be compatible with both, so I'd rather have a clear (at least in my mind) message that prevents Talented to load altogether than lots of obscure bug reports depending on which incompatible feature the user choose to use.

I feel I really need user's input before I can feel confident that Talented is ready to be released. I might as well get it as soon as possible, and that meant having a version available for users to try. This first alpha has provided me with 2 bug reports and 1 feature request. Which is still infinitly more than what I had previously (nothing). I've just released a beta version, and I hope I'll get more reports about it. All I want is that by the time 3.1 hits live, a release quality version of Talented is ready.

What exactly is the issue you're having with Talented 1.9.6c ?

You can be pissed at me for the decision I took, but spreading FUD is out of line.

I have, right now, spent something like 80 hours of work on Talented 2.0. That's 50 SVN commits, and by far the largest changeset of any update to Talented ever. Even the first commit or the conversion to Ace3 were not as complex as this.

Okay, you may have to invest a few minutes to fix your updater so that it does not install Talented 2.0 on live. I'm sorry about that, but your reaction does not help at all. I am not investing that time for you. I'm glad that you can get something out of it, and by that I mean an addon that I think is of professional quality, and that offers a lot of functionnality that is exclusive to this addon. But if you don't like it, don't use it. I don't care.

Re: talented bugged?

Talented v2.0 is only compatible with 3.1 PTR
Blame your updater. Talented v2.0 is an alpha release, marked as only compatible with 3.1 on curse.

Your updater should not install it on the live client. Blame your updater.

Talented Has Disappeared

So, I updated my addons yesterday via WoW Matrix, as always, and I noticed Talented was one of the ones to get an update.

Well, Talented no longer works at all. When I bring up my talents in game, I see the same old claustrophobic talents pane of the Blizzard UI.

Talented was updated again today via WoW Matrix, and still it doesn't work.

There are no blatant errors or messages, but something is obviously not working right. I've already uninstalled and reinstalled, to no avail.

Any suggestions?

This is not, by far, the first time this has been asked. But quite honestly, supporting something like this requires too much UI changes, and complexity that it's really not worth it.

From a pure UI point of view, you would have to design a way to show and modify the order by which points are allocated. When designing a template, you most definitely never do it in order, so it has to be possible to change this order when the template has been finalized. How do you do that ?

I really do not think that anyone would make the effort of trying to define their talent allocation order at level 1 and follow it blindly up to level 80. I even think that you'd need not much more time to make that decision once every level. How long really, once you've decided a target template, do you need to decide which point to take from the 3-4 possible at each level ?

Talented Data

Hi,
I noticed over on the Curse site you have a file called Talented_Data. I get all my mods from here but couldn't find that file here. Do I need to get that file from Curse as well in order for your mod to work? If so, why isn't that file here as well?

Thanks,
Twidget

Edit:
Duh... should have read your comment on the Curse site. You said it's no longer needed. Thanks!
