A display platform for LibDataBroker (LDB) based plug-ins. The display is provided through panels, each having sections (Left, Center, Right) corresponding with how a plugin is justified within it.
All plugins are disabled by default and you must turn on the ones you want to use. This is to avoid the complete mess that results from all plugins being on with the first use. The only plugin on at the start is the one provided by this addon to access its options easily. Just click it to start changing settings.
With plugins unlocked you can drag and drop them to other panels/sections and have them automatically adjust to their new location. There are no limitations on the drag and drop capabilities other than the new location for a plugin must be within a panel. You may also change the location of a plugin through the plugin options menu.
Almost all sub-sections of settings have a default option. The defaults follow a set pattern. First plugins check their settings, if default, they next go to their panel's settings. If the panel is also set to default then it defers to the addon's global settings. Finally, if the global settings are still set to default, then the hard coded defaults are used.
Note: It is recommended that you delete the folder(s) for an existing addon when updating to a different version. This is to keep files that are no longer used from taking up space.
Translators: To submit a translation please just edit existing files (example: DockingStation\Locales\deDE.lua and DockingStation_Config\Locales\deDE.lua) and send them to me.

In response to this 'type attribute' that I just now read about (which answers my previous post ) Is there a simple 'generic type code' that the end users can add to their plugins LUA file in the event that the author does not update their 'type attribute'. IE a simple line of code we can copy past like "Define addonX as .type blahblahblah" for those of us with no LUA experience?

Besides, if Docking Station was the one you updated most recently, logic would dictate that it might be the culprit if things go wrong after an update. If you light a fire then the house burns down, are you going to blame the wiring?

AS I understand the below comments if the plugin doesn't supply all the info requested it's ignored by the docking station? I think this explain why I've just spend an hour deleting addons and reinstalling to find out why a plugin doesn't work.
I'm all for enforcing the specification, but for gods sake tell the users why a plugin isn't working. |

I see both sides of it, and I wish there was a better solution. The other problem with editing your plugins to work correctly is that the Curse updater will annoy you about it, saying that the addon is different than the one in their database and you either have to manually ignore it and just watch the changelogs for the author to update it correctly or not use the "Update All" function. There has to be some sort of compromise that can be reached. Has anyone asked Tekkub his opinion, since he's the LDB king?
My issue is this however: Perfect Hit defines as a type, but still doesn't display, and worked before PH updated the last time. Nothing has changed (that I can see) in the display declaration, so I've posted on the PH comments section too. I'm not opening a ticket because I don't believe it is a bug with DS, but I thought I'd let you know that even plugins that define a type aren't working, so is there something other than adding the LDB type that we must do? |

My removing the type "guessing" had nothing to do with enforcement. I'm just trying to give LDB an honest shot outside of plugins.
LDB is a generic library. An addon author using a library in their code shouldn't have to worry about how others implemented it in another area and have to make changes based on that. If displays continue to allow plugins to not define their type then that means any other use of LDB will have to avoid using certain fields or be forced to define some arbitrary type when it shouldn't be necessary. If an author uses LDB in their plugin and has never delved into the plugin side of things they could end up making many data objects that displays could possibly think are plugins when they aren't. Now you have a bunch of extra crap in your plugin list and possibly a mess on your screen depending on the display you are using. Adding a type field takes all of 5 minutes and that includes uploading the new version to host sites. If a plugin author refuses to fix it after getting it reported as a bug then they are just lazy. And yes it is a bug and it is entirely the plugin author's responsibility to fix it. |
