Call To Arms (monitor LFG channel)  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: WotLK 3.3.0
by: ggman [More]

*** UPDATED For WotLK ***

Note: RightClick on the Minimap icon to join the LookingForGroup channel.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Taken from original description:

CallToArms (CTA) monitors the LookingForGroup and other chat channels and shows a list of all players who are looking for a group. This is a global list that shows players and groups from all over Azeroth.

There are also some group management features that are left over from the days before the Blizzard LFG tool:

- Flag yourself as LFG - Using this feature, the player enters a short description of the desired quest/instance etc. that s/he would like to do. This information is placed on the same list that is viewable by all other users globally.

- Find more players for your group - CTA lets group leaders create a profile of their group. This profile includes a short description, the maximum size of the group and the level range of the group members. Group leaders can even set the class distribution of the group members. This information is posted on the global list so that other users can view it.

CTA also has a blacklist feature which is a list of players that are not allowed to join your group. The blacklist also acts as an extended ignore list.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is an update of the original version for WotLK.

3.2.2
Added TOC keyword for new dungeon/raid.
Fixed bug where list showed wrong who information.
Fixed bug that prevented some chat channels from being seen.
Added option to Disable CTA Broadcast chat channel.
Scan Guild Chat option now works.
bumped interface version for 3.2

3.1.0
- Fix AutoLFG (SetLFGRoles to type DPS).
- Add tayedaen's chat message truncation changes
- Add Ulduar keyword
- The LFG indicator icon should be a bit more responsive.

3.0.9
- Add Thrashfinger modification (see comments)
- Minor optimizations

3.0.3
- Fix disconnect when attempting to forward messages with item links. Messages with links are now ignored.
- Fix problem with Who window not responding (events were being ignored).
- Fix problem where /who wasn't working in chat
- Fix bug where LFG messages were being removed from the list when they were forwarded.
- Tweak dungeon keywords and optimize so they are found quicker. WotLK dungeon keywords moved to top of list.
- Ignore zone keywords. No one uses these anyway. Why waste cpu time looking?
- Add keywords to spam list so these are not picked up as LFG messages. Messages containing any spam trigger words are never forwarded despite spam settting.
- LFG messages are now forwarded using ChatThrottleLib
- Misc event handler changes

3.0.2
- Fix disconnect problem (I believe this was caused by forwarding too many msgs across the CTA channel too quickly. This has been scaled back.)
- Fix error when clicking "Start a Party","Start a Raid" buttons

3.0.1
- LFG messages from local channels will now be properly broadcast to other CTA users
- Guildies looking for groups will show up in green text
- cleaned up some old code

3.0.0
- added new WotLK zones, instances
- added Death Knight class
- changed upper level to 80
- updated event calls in xml frames to be 3.0 compliant

I have the guild chat scanning option in place for the next version. Im testing it now. Group messages from guild chat will not be forwarded to other CTA users.

A note on the CTA channel...
CTA monitors several channels for group messages -- including local channels like General, Local Defense, and Trade. Messages picked up on the local channels are forwarded to other CTA users using the CTA Channel.
Its nice to get the LFx messages from other users that would otherwise be missed. I know on my server that a lot of people use the Trade channel to post LFG messages.

I'll look into the Auto-LFG joining issue. I don't know if that was ever fully implemented. But yes, you do have to right click it rignt now.

Yes, CTA lite sounds like a good idea. Just a basic LFG msg monitor (from the LFG channel and General, maybe even guild.whispers? Great if you have a busy guild ).

Means you can ditch the CTAchannel and inter-client communication. Not much need for that.

But a single place to browse recent LFG/LFM requests from all channels would be awesome, plus the 'auto LFG channel joiner' function.

Edit: An ability to disable the minimap text (not the button, but the text) would be nice. Couldn't find it in the options.
I agree.

Actually at this point of WoW and of the Add-On, there is no need for the CTAChannel any more. Back in pre-LFG-changes, it was very useful because there are a lot of CTA users. Today, many do not use it because [1] no one bothers with the built-in LFG anymore; or [2] they're fine with the built-in LFG.

Maybe going forward, it is best to make the CTA more of an "enhancement" of the built-in LFG. Like, we can setup our LFG via CTA the way the game wants it, at the same time, be able to broadcast to "other channels" with our custom LFG/LFM messages.

I hope you get the idea. I'm having a hard time thinking in a bulleted form which CTA features can be dropped and which should be kept

Btw, I noticed that I have to right-click the CTA button everytime I logged-in so it will join the LFG channel. It doesn't "auto-join", a bug?

Bug Fix

Version 3.0.3 fixes this. I was inadvertantly deleting msgs as they were being forwarded.

I don't seem to get many results so I checked the log (neat tool that). It seems CTA picks up messages fine, but then 'forwards' them at which point they disappear from the list of messages found

Consequently any LFX msgs appear in the chat frame for about a minute.

I like the idea of a "CTA Light", as I enjoy monitoring the most as well. Love the mod!

I've fixed the "attempt to index local 'item' (a nil value)" error below when you click the "Start a Party" button.
Frankly, I just use CallToArms to monitor for groups and I've never used the grouping functionality. In fact, I'm thinking of removing the group/raid management stuff altogether. (..or maybe a CTA light?).

The disconnects/crashing were caused by forwarding too many messages too fast on the CTA channel. This was most noticeable when you were in one of the major cities (that have a lot of local chat traffic) such as Org or Dalaran.
I've scaled this back quite a bit and the DC's should no longer be a problem.

Please post if you experience any more disconnects!!
Thanks for your feedback.

I also crash after a few minutes from this upgrade. I had to disable it. Looking forward to using this addon again.

I have small warning for mod author.

I use it sinds first version before. 3.0.0 works okay, it shows something in the list and there is no crash or .... server disconnect.

But with version 3.0.1 ... something is wrong. It looks it causes server disconnection already after short time when i started the game and mods loaded. When i do the normal work, suddenly the game has disconnect from the server. Think it affects already by first LFG rows.
When i disable the mod, i can play further.

Perhaps there is something forbidden, for example too much or illegal asking from the server. Or pulling LFG channel too much open.

What do you think? What is changed in 3.0.1?
