WoWInterface is happy to announce that we have teamed up with Wowhead and the Norganna's AddOns Gatherer team to provide you with an exclusive downloadable Wowhead database for display in-game by Gatherer.
This addon will provide you with all the information currently in the Wowhead database showing all known locations of herbs, minerals and treasures. Now you can simply load up Gatherer, plug this database into it, and know what can be found in the zone you are in, without having to discover them yourself.
Wowhead will be providing regular dumps of their database to the Norganna team, who will then update the GathererDB Wowhead addon exclusively here on WoWInterface.
How it works
The import procedure is simple and painless. Once you have installed the AddOn and have reloaded the game, ensuring that both Gatherer and GathererDB_Wowhead are activated. When you finally log into the game, follow this procedure to import the new data into Gatherer:

you guys rock!
I just want to say thank you for such great add-ons! I don't know what I would do without Auctioneer and Gatherer.
If I am getting error messages from GathererDB, I haven't really noticed it. But I think what you are trying to tell everyone is that they need to disable the DB add-on until after Cata, right? It's not going to affect Gatherer and it will still store the nodes they find, correct? |

The Database Problem
I'm not sure if this is helpful or not but I opened DB_WowheadMain.lua and looked for a "then" statement that didn't have anything associated with it since the error I recieve notes a "then" = nil problem. I think it said line 104 but I also saw something about line 106. In any event, when I opened it in notepad I saw that the third to last if...then statement had nothing after the "then". It was followed by another "if". Here is the line:
if locale == "enUS" then if not Gatherer.Nodes.Names[nodeName] then Gatherer.Nodes.Names[nodeName] = nodeId end if not Gatherer.Categories.CategoryNames[nodeId] then Gatherer.Categories.CategoryNames[nodeId] = nodeName end end end the "if locale =="enUS" then" line seems to need a then attached. OR I could just be totally wrong. I'm not a programmer or anything like that it's just that all the other entries have a "then [something] followed by the next "if" statement and this one doesn't. If none of this helps I apologize for wasting time. I was just hoping I could help make this easier to diagnose.

Re: Re: Re: Missing the point
GreenMan99,
Open up your Gatherer report UI and enter some text, like Arathi or Iron into the search bar at the top of the Gatherer report/database view. You should then see the data that is in the local database; there was nothing in the update that would have removed any of the previously-saved data. If folks lost their data due to a failed patch, system crash, et cetera, then Guildmates or even folks from trade can either send them their Gatherer.lua file (only accept from more trusted sources) or enter some search text, highlight the node data, and then send the nodes to the person in need. For exact procedures/details, see the FAQ on our main site at http://Wiki.Norganna.Org/Gatherer/FAQ . The main thing here is to realize that the GathererDB_Wowhead and Gatherer are two separate AddOns. Gatherere 3.1.16, which should be out quite soon will address the HUD issue for some Northrend items and the default, no text entered view, in the report UI. Until December, though, folks can simply disable or remove the GathererDB_Wowhead; there should be no other errors on startup. As noted in the reply, above, we *may* have time to get a patch out for the old database, but with the node shift and all, that is a very, very low priority. Our volunteers have their collective hands full with other matters, so we do not recommend anyone holding their breath and waiting until about a week after Cataclysm officially launches. (But only if they have really, really big lungs.) Happy Sales, Nikk

Re: Re: Re: Missing the point
Stephey,
Yes, you are correct that the GathererDB_Wowhead AddOn will not be updated until December and should not be expected to work until then. Of course, if we have the time and volunteer manpower, we may put out an interim patch, but that is doubtful until after the nodes shift. We do plan to update this, but there is little reason and manpower is thin. The Gatherer AddOn, itself, will have another update to 3.1.16 in the next few days to address some display issues that it has with WoW 4.x- but should be quite useable, even now. Already, a number of issues from 3.1.14 have been addressed, including the "ping" feature working and tooltips showing on the main map. (Yay!) There were six nodes inadvertently left out of the HUD, but, the data is still being collected - and the locations/gathers are still visible on the minimap and main map. The other issue is that the database/report view will not show node data until a search is entered in the text box at the top of the window- but the data should all still be present unless some other issue caused it to disappear, over which we have no control. Happy Gatherering, Nikk

Re: Re: Missing the point
You say that "others" can select nodes from their database and share those nodes. Can you point me to one of the "others"? since the patch none of my friends have functioning databases to select noded from.
Thanks

Re: Re: Missing the point
Hi,
OK I see now how to "update" this without re-importing and got this working again in 4.0.1 using the report thingie. And I understand these changes in wow have created a lot of new work for you guys. Thanks for your hard work. I guess what you're saying is you know that gatherer and this gatherer database don't play well together but you are going to wait till 4.0.cata comes out to fix this stall at 99% issue it has right now? I guess I just wanted you to understand there seems to be some sort of failure between this DB add on and the newest gatherer. Thanks again for your hard work! Stephey |

Re: Missing the point
Beebolini,
It is nice that you understand the other priorities, and that we all have lives in addition to putting out free software for folks to use but you are confusing two different AddOns. There is a simple display issue in Gatherer 3.1.15, should be corrected to "show" the data in 3.1.16. The data, unless erased by some other method, is still there, and can be seen if you enter some relevant text in the Gatherer report UI search. That is the little box at the top of the report window, since folks sometimes do not realize it is there. Of course you cannot import from GathererDB, but others can enter a term like Arathi- select all, and send them to you via the Gatherer sharing mechanism, covered on our main FAQ at http://Wiki.Norganna.Org/Gatherer/FAQ . The issue with the HUD not showing six nodes in Northrend, that were left out of 3.1.14/3.1.15 is fixed, is undergoing final testing, and will be included in Gatherer 3.1.16. As noted, GathererDB_Wowhead, this AddOn, will not be updated until after the nodes move in just about two months. Happy Gatherering, Nikk

Missing the point
I think you're missing our point here...
I totally understand that Auctioneer is a huge project, and appreciate the time you're putting into this - but please acknowledge the problem with the current version of the database. If you can't/won't fix it before Cataclysm, then ok I guess, but you're trying to say that there isn't a problem here - and there most definitely is. Once the Auctioneer problem is tackled - please look at fixing this. We still have over a month, and there's lots of gold to be made. Thanks! |

Re: GathererDB-Wowhead import
Tenschi,
As noted below, that is about right. Stephey, et al, The next version of the GathererDB_Wowhead will be posted after WoW 4.x/Cataclysm, since all node locations remain the same as in 3.x. If you imported in the past, all of that data is still in the Gatherer database and will show on the mini/main map when you move toward the nodes. If you did not, then simply ask for someone to send you their data - see http://Wiki.Norganna.Org/Gatherer/FAQ for details. We hope to have the database during the first week, or so, of Cataclysm going live. To that end, please be sure to run the Wowhead updater, available for MS Windows and OSX via http://www.wowhead.com/?client . The more data that comes in for Cataclysm, the faster it can be aggregated and supplied to us by Wowhead, coded into the AddOn, tested, and made available for everyone to use. Happy Gatherering, Nikk

Broken add-on
Appears the DB add-on was broken either by newer version of gatherer for 4.0.1 or by 4.0.1 itself. it got to 99% then a warning came up that add on has large amount of errors. I could never get it past 99%. Just a heads up, gonna miss this add on badly!

Re: Dragonblight
Garylisk,
The data was the 'latest' when the database was created. That said, there will not be another update until after Cataclysm launches and a reasonable amount of time passes to allow for all of the new/reloacted node locations. Our first priority is our other project, Auctioneer, its submodules, the rest of the Auctioneer Suite, Gatherer itself, and then the database. There is a fairly large amount of work to do, so no ETA on when to expect any of the bits, we hope to have all of the other AddOns set for launch day, but there are surely no guarantees. The best thing to do, for now, would be to have a friend or clanmate send you the node locations via the built in sharing feature. See the FAQ for details, http://Wiki.Norganna.Org/Gatherer/FAQ . Happy Gatherering, Nikk
