Gladius  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 4.0.0
by: Proditor, Resike, Rinu

What is Gladius?
Gladius adds enemy unit frames to arenas for easier targeting and focusing. It shows a health bar, a mana bar below the health bar (optional), a cast bar below the mana bar (optional), a class icon to the left side of the health bar (optional) and important buffs and crowd control durations (optional, overlays the class icon). The frame resizes itself to the current bracket (optional).

Gladius uses the 3.0.2 arena unit ids, therefore it'll add units automatically to the frame (byebye targeting macros) and you'll always be able to target/focus the enemies, regardless of if they are added when you're in combat. The cast bars and the buff/debuff timers should be 100% correct.

You can add important buffs and crowd controls in the auralist.lua file. You will have to select a priority for it. If a buff/debuff is already displaying when the spell is cast it'll only show up on the class icon if the priority equals or is higher than the current one displayed.

More features:
Arena enemies targets (optional): displays the class of the arena enemy's current target in a small frame on the health bar to the right.

Trinket status (optional): has a few different display options, but in general it shows if the PvP Trinket is ready for the arena enemy.

Slash commands:
/gladius ui, config, options - displays the configuration screen
/gladius test1-5 - shows a test frame with the chosen amount of test units
/gladius hide - hides the test frame
/gladius trinket - simulates a trinket being used for the first arena target

But.. but.. this is very similar to Proximo and SSAF?
Yes, I simply created this as a learning project for Lua. I actually didn't plan on releasing it but in the end I thought it turned out pretty good and decided to give it a go. I do not expect to start competing with the big boys, but perhaps someone else is interested in using it.

Thanks:
Thanks to Proximo, SSArena Frames and their respective developers for working as both inspirational and informational sources.

It's simple. Basically, Proximo has been abandoned and still bugs out on DK's.

The decent alternatives are Gladius and SS Arena Frames.

I enabled the Announce Enemies option and it prints the enemy name to the chat twice. I also got a LUA error once, but don't know what it said, so that's pretty much useless.

Alright, thank you for reporting. I haven't tested this function much at all. I'd suggest you to not enable it for anything serious while I'm looking for the error.

edit.
fixed so it doesn't announce enemies twice, cant really do anything about the unknown lua error

I definitely agree with that second bullet. I need my arena frames to grow upward from where I position them on my screen.

But everything else about this mod is stellar! Great work!

Auto Hide/Show

Thanks for this Mod, I'm currently trying it out as an alternative to Proximo. Is there anyway that I can have Gladius auto hide/show when I leave/enter an Arena match?

Feature request

I have used addon "Arena Unit Frames" before this one, it had all the features this addon have and even more, except the trinket timer. Saddenly author no longer updates it. Arena unit frames was informing about party members silences, have better options for mouse clicks over frames(allows to make a macro for mouse click), remembers enemyes from all of you last games(if you played vs rogue and priest, it will show rogue frame immedeatly in the next game if you see the priest), have option to Play Sound files when you need to zerg someone or your party member is silenced, range to enemyes. Would you consider adding this features into your addon?

I do not intend to include information about your own party in this addon, it's for enemies only. Macro support for clicks is something that I have on my to-do list as I've seen many people requesting it. A low enemy health alert was added in r17. Having sounds play on alerts is something that I MIGHT, just MIGHT add in the future...

Having the addon remember old enemies feels rather risky (what if someone changes partner, not that likely but anyways) and not very important. Usually you remember what partner the last teams you played had anyhow and most likely you can tell it by the buffs. Feels like a lot of code for something rather unimportant.

Range check.. why?

This is by no means the ultimate arena all-in-one addon and I'm not intending to try to make it that.

Anyhow, I saw that the author is actually going to update the addon again, just that it's going to take a while, so I guess you should return to using it if you really want those features

As a Gladiator Mage, I actually prefer this addon to AUF and Proximo.

There's a lot of crap going on during arena and this one lays things out clearly (trinkets used, cc status and countdown, current spell being cast, etc.).

If you want audible or text warnings and other stuff of that nature, there are plenty of other mods available.

I recommend this addon and hope Proditor maintains it.

Customize the mod and try it out before you pass judgements!

Thanks.

Agreed, as the UI tutorial guy, I find Gladius to be an awesome addon! I got so many death threats that I had to switch to Gladius for the 2nd edition of my tutorial! Not really death threats, but DAMN people from AJ hounded me, lol.

Vard: Exactly how does it compare to Proximo? The general concept & functionality is similar, what you're asking is akin to asking how does Pitbull compare to XPerl, or Bartender4 to Dominos. Both have their perks, but you can rest assured that Gladius (at least right now) is a solid addon. That and recently I've noticed some bugs with Proximo...

The problem with this addon is that it taints execution. It's not awful, but I'm not using it for that reason.
