Version: 10.0.001
by: totalpackage, drjebus, Sugarwing

Cellular is an instant messenger mod (for only whispers) based on the functionality of an old version of ForgottenChat.

YouTube Intro

Features:

  • Many appearance options
  • History log
  • A way to copy text
  • Reuse of the default chat editbox
  • Whispers shown in separate windows or a tab-based single window
  • Should work with most spam filter mods
  • ...and other basic IM features
  • !! New !! Language support for enUS / enGB and deDE

How to Use:
  • "/cellular", check Interface Options->AddOns, or right-click a window for options
  • Left-click a window to toggle the editbox
  • Left-click a tab to activate it
  • Shift-left-click and drag a window to move
  • Shift-left-click and drag bottom-right corner to resize
  • Right-click a tab for show/close/options dropdown
  • Middle-click a tab to close
  • Hold ctrl and close any window/tab to quick remove from history
  • Several convenient buttons (some require shift clicking for confirmation reasons)

Warnings:
  • If you have history enabled and notice that Cellular is using a lot of memory, you should cleanup your history entries using Cellular's history options.
  • If you're experiencing crashing due to memory errors, disable and clear your history.
  • If you cherish your history, you can back up the saved variables file and then delete it. You can view it in any text editor later. The location of the saved variables file is here:

Do you plan to add in sounds for incoming PMs ? I was so very used to hearing the "Heart" sound for incoming PMs - i even assumed it was Cellular! Although that's purely a matter of convenience for me - all the same would be awesome to see sounds encorporated.

Thanks for an otherwise amazing addon

Again, to all memory issues, just clear and disable history. If that still doesn't work, then avoid using Cellular.

I've gone through and disabled all addons and logged in with no problems. I've enabled each one individually and the only one that makes me crash every time is Cellular. Thankfully I can enable it within the game using Ampere, but I would like to be able to log in without having to go through all that.

Angry Crashing

Something about this addon is making my game crash EVERY time I log in on a character with the addon enabled. I have to disable it, log in, then I can enable it using Ampere, reload UI and it works... until I want to change characters or get disconnected. I've cleared the history. I've deleted the history LUA. I don't know why but it's having some error which makes my game crash.

I have gone through and disabled/enabled each mod I use and it is Cellular which causes this problem. I love this mod and hate that I'm having this trouble with it. If you need any additional information, I'll do my best to provide it.

well I am rather embarrassed, but I finally figured out the copy text option. By right clicking the persons name I can select copy text. Seems so obvious now.

Taigen, Cellular makes a new window that displays whispers. You can either have multiple windows - one per "conversation" - or one tabbed window to hold multiple conversations in one space. Cellular doesn't hook on to the default chat frame as far as I have seen.

The reason why I quoted you and began talking about kgpanels is because I too was looking to save screen room and I believe kgpanels can give this sort of functionality since Cellular doesn't have it.

@ totalpackage,

Yes, thank you I have been using the code you provided along with kgpanels and hope to have something working soon. I'm in the learning process with kgpanels. ^^"

My comment got lumped together with someone else's and I was not talking about kg panels or anything of the sort. I was asking simply if this mod hooked onto the back of the general chat frame to save screen room (ie creating more tabs onto the default chat frame.. General, CombatLog, Whisper 1, Whisper 2, ect.) but if the answer is no, that's fine... But I was not asking about scripting or another mod. Perhaps you'd understand what I mean more if you took a look at Tell Track over on Curse.com. That's basically what I want w/o the little black box but if this mod is incapable of that then I understand.
