Bejeweled  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 1.1b
by: PopCapGames [More]

Whaaat? You can play Bejeweled inside WoW?! How? Why?

Lots of PopCap employees are also hardcore WoW players, who alt-tab during long flights or queues to kill time with Bejeweled. So when we learned we could actually implement Bejeweled inside WoW through an Add-On, we were intrigued. Soon the PopCap 'guild' was figuring out ways to make the mod even cooler and more comprehensive... and now it's ready to be unleashed!

FEATURES INCLUDE:
- Classic, Timed and Flight modes
- Incredible graphics, animation, sounds and explosions
- Customizable UI, with scaling, and auto-open, etc.
- Bejeweling 'tradeskill' ranks up with your achievements
- Persistent High Score lists: compete with friends and guild members
- FREE! Yes, absolutely Free!

Bejeweled Add-on for WoW installs like any other mod. Simply extract the file into your World of Warcraft/Interface/Addons directory then launch WoW!

1.1b is a toc update for 3.3

1.1a is a toc update for 3.2

===============================================
Changed in 1.1
===============================================

- Upgraded the score system to a new format. Users will be prompted to convert their score data, which will cause all friend/guild high scores to reset, as well as personal best scores in Classic and Timed modes, but all other data, including skill points, will remain intact. If the user opts to not convert to the new score system, all scores will remain intact, but there will be no communication of new scores to friends and guild mates. If a user decides to upgrade later on, a button is available on the new "High Scores" tab to allow the conversion.

- Renamed the "Personal" tab to "Stats"

- Added "High Score" tab to the Feats of Skill screen and removed the Friends and Guild tabs. The High Scores tab displays both the friends and the guild scores, with the display chosen via radio selectors.

- Added "Total Games Played" to stats screen. This is the total games played on all characters.

- Added "Achievements" tab to the Feats of Skill screen and removed the Fun and Game achievements from the Bejeweling skill screen, so that the achievements get more room and are easier to track. This tab also lists how many achievements have been unlocked and how many achievements have been completed.

- Added a new setting to the Options screen called "Show full skill-up text", under the "Display skill gains in Chat Interface" setting. This new option will display the name of the skill that granted the skill up in the chat interface, so there won't be any confusion about how skill points were gained.

- Added default flight times for Northrend, instead of requiring the user to build the database from scratch.

- Adjusted some achievements to make them a little easier to obtain.

- Fixed an issue where the "Times entered combat while playing" stat was incorrectly adding numbers when the player wasn't actually playing a game.

- Fixed an issue where some classic mode skill-up events were triggering in timed mode. This was not intended and has been fixed.

- Fixed an issue where matching jewels in L or T shapes would could result in granting skill points for creating a hyper cube, when a power gem was actually created.

- Fixed an issue where jumping on a flight path with Bejeweled set to auto-start upon flight start, or auto-open upon flight start, would cause various problems if the player was shapeshifted or wearing a costume.

- Fixed an issue where gems would fall off the game board when the mouse moved over the gems in certain situations

- Fixed an issue where hyper cubes would not transfer from level 1 to level 2, and would re-appear in level 3.

- Fixed an issue where players were granted jewel clear points and counts when bomb jewels would drop down to clear out part of the stage when no more moves were available in timed mode.

- Fixed an issue where some flight path addons would conflict with Bejeweled, resulting in flight path games starting with 0:00 remaining, or causing an error upon lift off.

Changed in 1.03b
- Updated TOC for 3.1, larger bugfix build coming soon.

Changed in 1.03
- Added a new option to the Options screen called "One score per person on high score lists." Turning this on will make it so only one score per person will be on your high score lists. No longer will the best player in your guild dominate your high score list, if you choose not to see it.

- Fixed an issue where players were being awarded the "Die from falling damage" achievement when they were actually surviving. That was not intended and has been fixed.

- Fixed an issue where accepting a ready check in a raid was not triggering the achievement "Say yes to a raid ready check." It should now trigger when you say yes.

- Fixed an issue where trying to do the "Die from combat damage" achievement wouldn't trigger if damage done at any point might have been absorbed or blocked or anything else but a numeric value, resulting in an error and preventing this achievement from completing.

- Fixed an issue where game elements such as the power gem and hyper cubes would transfer over to new games if they existed in the prior game. This would include transferring empty jewels, waiting to explode jewels, and more, which would result in a variety of strange situations such as holes appearing in the game board, jewels exploding for no reason, and starting new games with special jewels already available.

- Fixed an issue where the minimap icon would not remember if it was hidden upon logging in and would automatically show itself.

- Fixed an issue where when the game window was shown without a game in progress, the "progress" bar would be slightly filled.

- Fixed an issue where the user could still click jewels while the game was paused.

- Fixed an issue where the guild high-score list would appear to be losing names if the guild roster was never opened before viewing the high scores.

Changed in 1.02
- Added slash command "/reset" which will reset your current profile in the game. To use, simply type "/bejeweled reset" in the chat box.

- The minimap icon can now be hidden or shown via the Options window.

- The minimap icon can now be dragged away from the minimap if the icon is dragged far enough to detach it from the map. Dragging the icon back onto the minimap will reattach it.

Changed in 1.01
- Fixed an issue where having "New game on flight start" turned on would cause the game to appear when a flight started, even though the game did not have "auto-show on flight" start turned on. Now, it will only start a new game if the window is shown or if the auto show is turned on.

- Fixed an issue where the "Die from combat" Fun Achievement was not working properly due to some errors generated from unique damage dealt (such as evaded, blocked, or resisted damage)

- Fixed an issue where the minimap icon's tooltip would not disappear when mousing away from the minimap icon

- Fixed an issue where the score sync was too crazy and was generating WAAAAY more addon communications than required. Now, the scores are checked at log-in and whenever someone posts a new score (before, it would sync whenever someone logged in or out from the friend and guild list, even if that person did not have the addon, resulting in addon communication spam which would tie up game bandwidth a little bit)

- Fixed an issue where the friend and guild scores would not display properly, removing scores occasionally when viewing them multiple times

- Fixed a localization issue that would cause an error for some WOW clients running in a locale other than English whenever looting an item.

- Fixed a rare issue where generating a floating score might return an error.

I was addicted to Bejeweled well before it became an addon... so naturally I downloaded the addon version too

A few nitpicks:

1. The aforementioned end-of-flight issue affects me as well. Maybe to avoid the score issue, you could print the score and relevant standing on the charts (if there is one) to the chat frame? Or at least forcibly hide the window when it gets below a certain alpha.

2. Sometimes the special gems don't show properly until a UI reload. Not entirely sure why.

3. I want a "Don't take pity on me" option that stops the random explody gems that drop if you run out of moves on level 1 or in a timed game.

4. Chuzzle?

I see your point!

Perhaps you'd consider a command-line option for diehard tweakers like me? Something like "/bejeweled nofade" would be awesome.

This is something we considered during development, however we specifically chose to focus in on friends/guild communities due to the open nature of the addon code. Since the code must be uncompiled lua, its very easy for anyone to get in and see the inner workings of the mod. Therefore, cheating is a very real possibility with very little we can do to combat it.

Your friends and guildmates however are a self-policing community. Generally speaking, if your friends and guildmates notice you cheating to beat their bejeweled high scores, they'll have a chat with you about it and solve the problem within their own community.

The whole server/faction is a lot less self-policing and therefore people's experience could easily be turned pretty negative pretty quick.

Talking Suggestion

Suggestion:

Support for Custom Channel communication so we can have a faction wide High Scores.

1) This should be disabled by default
2) There should be an option to choose how long before the add-on joins the channel "after" log-in. The issue with auto-joining channels after log-in is that, for clients with so many addons installed, or for PCs will slower gfx card (for example), the add-ons with auto-join channel gets loaded first before the default channels.

Hence, Add-On Auto-Join channel becomes /1. Thus, it is mandatory to have an option to set how long before the Add-On attempts to auto-join a channel.

^_^

I hope this gets implemented. I for one, doesn't mind an extra channel, if that means I can compete with my realm

Thank you very much!!

Sorry for the delay. My computer crashed pretty hard and I just recovered everything.

The game saves the Classic mode board after every move. So, make a move, it saves it, then log out of WOW and back in, you'll continue where you left off. Also, if you start a new Timed game or Flightpath game, your Classic mode game will not be touched. By starting a new Classic mode game, if you have a saved game in progress, you will have the option for "Continue" or "New Game" and by clicking Continue, you continue =) The only time the saved game is erased is when you get a Game Over on the actual Classic Mode, which will wipe the game.

I still can't believe something like this is possible. Now if only I could master flying and playing at the same time...

This is a good suggestion. I'll add it to our "Lets try and add this in at some point" list for next time we go to update the code.

In short, the game only turns invisible on landing - it doesn't actually go away until I click away from the frame and then click the X.

Anyone else experienced this?

Cool

This is the coolest thing ever... one suggestion, though. Add a manual hint button that penalizes you for using it. It already automatically gives you a hint, so it can't be that hard to add.
