In my quest to find the perfect tooltip mod, I decided to create my own and have a learning experience. Thus, TipTop was born. TipTop seeks to modify the default tip instead of replace it.


Apparently, my comments are a magnet for bug reports and feature requests, despite the buttons for them to the right to put them on my portal, the FAQ saying to put them on my portal (with links even!), and repeated requests in the comments section to put them at my portal. So I'll put it here in big, colorful, bold letters.

FEATURE REQUESTS AND BUG REPORTS NEED TO BE PUT ON MY PORTAL. IF YOU PUT THEM IN MY COMMENTS, THEY WILL MOST LIKELY BE FORGOTTEN AND/OR IGNORED.
I appreciate the time that you take to report bugs and request things, but please appreciate the time/effort that it takes me to go through them and remember them, and please just put them in the correct location.



Features:
  • optional class-colored border for units (optional support for !ClassColors)
  • optional difficulty-colored border for units
  • option to display class icon before unit's name in tooltip (off by default)
  • various class icon textures to choose from (thanks, gossipgirlxo and Flat Player Icons!)
  • option to display guild rank (off by default)
  • added target text line
  • "faded" tip if unit is tapped, dead, or offline
  • custom border, background, and status bar textures
  • custom font selection, plus option of Outline, etc.

FAQ:

Where are the options?
The options panel is located on the addons page of the Interface Options panel. Hit escape, go to Interface, click the AddOns tab, and you'll see TipTop listed there. You can also use the slash commands /tiptop or /tip

How do I move the tooltip?
In the TipTop config window, scroll down until you see the anchor settings. You may either anchor the mouse to the cursor, or to a side/corner of the screen. Note that x,y offsets only work when the tip is *not* anchored to the cursor. This is a limitation set by the game's API, and I will not code in the hacks that other tooltip addons use to get around this. I suggest using the alpha setting instead so the tip doesn't block your view so much.

I want the tooltip offset from the cursor - will you add it or is it bugged?
See above.

Where can I find more fonts/borders/bar textures?
For further font choices, I suggest the SharedMedia addon. Have a font you want to use that's not in there? Read the "Instructions for MyMedia.txt" file in the SharedMedia folder.

How can I give feedback?
Feel free to leave your comments/questions here, but all bug reports and feature requests need to go to my portal if you want me to remember to do them.

Can I use your code/textures?
All use of my code and custom textures separate from TipTop must be for your own personal use and they may not be redistributed separate from the addon. You may use snippets of my code in addons you intend to distribute only after receiving permission, and credit must be given.

Can I redistribute this addon?
My addons may only be redistributed in UI compilations, and any mention of the addon must point to its download page or my portal, both on wowinterface.

It doesn't "only" address that, it states that I won't code in those hacks, which is what you were originally requesting. Your current request has already been posted in Feature Requests, and I haven't turned it down - it's just not a high priority.

The FAQ response only addresses one way other addons have fixed the tooltip covering up objects. Any chance of having a smart anchoring feature added? Something that allows for mouse over anchoring of toons on the screen, but when mousing over UI objects such as unit frames and action bars, the tool tip appeared at a side/corner anchor so not to block anything.

My 2cent suggestion

guess you won't add that but think, was is the use to load TipTop each loads, is my mod useful when entering world ? I think no that is why AddonLoader provides this solution through an api delivered for this purpose but if the mod author doesn't really care when its data should load thats a problem for ppl that care to use the really minimal resource even if the mod is small, a gain is a gain and it shows you care on what does your mod and if it will not damage you comp like the huge peaces of s.. named Pitbull or so popular mods that does not really deserve to be that popular.

Hope do you see the idea

Great addon!

I love having the on cursor anchoring on some of my characters, but unfortunately the default cursor anchoring covers up most buttons or toons it mouses over. I've used a tooltip addon in the past that allowed for bottom left, bottom right, top left, etc. options for on cursor anchoring. Cirk's Mousetip also allows for x,y adjustment for mouseover anchoring. Any chance of having a similar customization feature implemented? Other than that, this is pretty much the perfect tool tip addon.

tooltip updating on modifier press

hi

i have a macro (for example):

/cast [mod:alt] spell1; spell2

when i hover over this macro in action bar, it shows the spell2 tooltip but when i press "alt" the tooltip doesnt update until i go away and hover over the macro again

this doesnt happen with default tooltip

could it be "repaired" or is it wanted behavior ?

Ah, yes, I forgot to reply to his comment. (Bug reports belong in my portal so that I don't forget to address them. )

It doesn't sound like a TipTop issue. He got the exact same behavior with a different tooltip addon. And I have never seen this behavior. Always, when debugging, disable all addons except the one you are having problems with to see if it is an issue with that mod or a conflict.

Shifting tooltip

I am too getting the same problem reported earlier by decampo.

TipTop Anchor Problems

As a result I decided to use TopTip (which I prefer) but this mod is behaving in exactly the same way. I've heard it could be a compatibility issue between it and Auctioneer. Anyone having this problem? Any ideas on what it is for definite and how the issue can be corrected?

My tooltip would be lower right corner normally but after a few minutes drifts upwards by a couple inches and remain there till I log or /reload.

I've added optional support for the new !ClassColors addon in this version. Any changes in the !ClassColors config require you to reload your UI in order for them to take place in TipTop.

Please note that there is a little tiny bug in version 2.0.9.0-beta-2 of !ClassColors, where Phanx forgot a } at line 264.

If you download that version and get the error, then change:

Well it took a little more than just the opacity- I also had to change the texture to 'Empty'.
